# DAY 10 AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE

I wake up and look next to me: my Sunshine is still sleeping. I swear I couldn’t love him more than I do right now, and yet I know I will tomorrow. I’ve never shouted from the rooftops that my boyfriend comes from Germany. In the end, it sounds far more exotic when you say: “my boyfriend comes from Brazil or from Italy than my boyfriend is born in Germany.

These days I don’t care anymore what sounds more exotic or cool, I wholeheartedly recommend everyone a German boyfriend. A boyfriend that even after 400 earthquakes remains quiet and holds you tight and keeps saying that everything will work out. A boyfriend with perfect German engineering skills that builds you a new house in the middle of a field including a fully equipped kitchen, laundry room and master bedroom. A boyfriend that makes you smile while all you want to do is cry.

Another small step

From today one there will be a fast boat in the morning between Bali and Lombok. Hopefully it will bring more and more of our friends back home. Since 2 days there are also daily boats at 9AM and 4PM between the Gili Islands and Lombok which makes it a lot easier to bring supplies to our island brothers and sisters. A good friend of mine was supposed to come in 10 days for a holiday and confirmed yesterday he is still coming! And he is not the only one; a lot of the guests of the hotels that are not completely damaged didn’t cancel their bookings and are still looking forward to visit us in paradise.

Each of us can make a difference, together we make change

Every Saturday we visit the local school on Gili Air to host our Club Harapan, which freely translated means Club of Hope & Dreams. Club Harapan is a program that focuses on educating children in conservation efforts. It’s one of the achievements in my life that I’m the most proud of. Education is our greatest opportunity to give an irrevocable gift to the next generation and I can’t wait to see the smiling faces of the kids again.

I would like to reach out to anyone with experience in helping children to deal with trauma. We want our classroom to be a place where the children can freely ask questions, talk about their feelings and feel safe. There is no set recipe or algorithm to get a child through a difficult time like this. It is a judgment of each child’s needs and what can be done to meet those needs in the most effective way. If you are someone who has experience in helping children through a crisis please send me a message.

When things are a bit back to normal we would also like to do organize a meeting in the Mosque after the Friday prayer where we would like to explain the local community exactly what happens when an earthquakes occur, what causes a tsunami and how people can protect their families. Agus Hery Purnomo and Andre Saputra, as this is your field of expertise, would you be willing to help me with this?

Believe in magic

It feels good to make plans for the future and focus on how we can make a difference. We are so close to getting to our target of our crowd funding campaign and I’m sure that with your support we will make it. Show us the power of social media and let us feel that we are not alone. Talk to you soon!
